Superintendent's Update - January 2023
Posted 2/5/23

Dear Hacienda La Puente Unified Community,

January brought our District an abundance of joy as students, teachers, staff and administrators returned to campuses recharged and ready for the new year.

This month, we celebrated 100 Days of School, observed Martin Luther King Jr. Day, recognized our Board of Education for School Board Appreciation Month and spread kindness throughout the community during the Great Kindness Challenge Week.

We also presented our annual State of the District, which provided us the opportunity to highlight our District successes and share our new year objectives with the community in-person after two years of presenting the event virtually.

While we experienced many joyous events this month, I’d like to take a moment and I extend my deepest condolences to the victims and families affected by the mass shooting that took place in Monterey Park on Jan. 21.  At a time when the Asian American and Pacific Islander community is celebrating Lunar New Year, this tragedy has caused deep sadness. I am proud of our District for coming together and embracing one another during this difficult time.

The safety and well-being of our students and staff continue to be our top priority. I encourage our community to explore the numerous resources provided by the Los Angeles County Office of Education, which provide educators and parents support in talking to students about gun violence, their safety and their feelings.

Thank you to all of our students, teachers, staff and community for your continuous support throughout the first half of the school year and I look forward to finishing the school year off strong.

As always, we are #ProudtobeHLPUSD.

Sincerely, Dr. Alfonso Jiménez
